NIGERIAN POLICE BANNED GATHERINGS AT AIRPORTS
The Nigeria Police Force has banned gatherings, receptions and carnivals in and within all airports across the nation.
A statement by the force spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, said the ban was part of a deliberate effort aimed at averting any security breach.
“The ban is placed to protect critical infrastructures, travellers and airport staff at the airports,” the statement read.
The directive is coming a day after the supporters of Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, allegedly forced their way unto the tarmac of the Port Harcourt Internatioanal Airport, an act described by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, as a security breach.
The police authorities directed all Airport Command Commissioners of Police and State Commissioners of Police hosting the airport to ensure the effectiveness of the directive.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, launched an anti-crime media campaign which seeks increased public participation in combating crime and criminality.
At an event to kick-start the campaign, Mr Abubakar said the objective of the campaign was to primarily mobilize the support of Nigerians in policing the nation.
“It will also increase information and intelligence gathering between the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian people,” he explained.
